A heat pump provides heating by transferring ambient energy from the environment into your home. Depending on the system type, it extracts heat from the air, ground, or groundwater. The process runs on a closed-loop refrigeration cycle with four key stages:
Heat Absorption A low-boiling-point refrigerant circulates through the outdoor unit and absorbs heat from the surrounding air, ground, or water—even at low ambient temperatures.
Compression The refrigerant is compressed, which raises its temperature significantly. This step requires a small amount of electrical energy.
Heat Transfer The hot, high-pressure refrigerant passes through a heat exchanger and releases its heat to your heating system—such as underfloor heating, radiators, or a hot water cylinder.
Expansion and Cooling After releasing its heat, the refrigerant expands and cools down, returning to its original state to restart the cycle.Because a heat pump moves heat rather than generating it through combustion, it uses far less electricity than it delivers in heat output. This makes it a highly efficient and cost-effective solution for heating and hot water
A heat pump’s performance depends on the refrigerant used to transfer heat. This system uses R290, a natural refrigerant with high thermodynamic efficiency and a very low global warming potential. R290 meets current F-Gas Regulation requirements, making it a sustainable and future-compliant choice.
